Answering your Questions about Power Design

High Power 1.5V to 5V Converter

Focus:

One of numerous circuits presented in Linear Technology Application Note 61, "Practical Circuitry for Measurement and Control Problems". In this particular circuit, a two-chip boost converter based on the LT1170 and LT1073 delivers 200 mA output at 5 V. The addition of the LT1073 boostrap startup circuit extends the input voltage rangeof the LT1170 switching regulator, enabling startup from inputs as lows as 1.2 V. A low-power version of this converter circuit developed by Steve Pietkiewicz is also presented.

What you’ll learn:

  • How to add a boostrap startup circuit to a switching regulator
