Design Guidelines for Off-line Forward Converters Using Fairchild Power Switch (FPS)

Focus:

A step-by-step procedure explains how to design an offline forward converter using the Fairchild Power Switch, which copackages the PWM controller and MOSFET. Procedure covers design of the transformer, reset circuit, output filter, as well as component selection and closing the feedback loop. To speed the design process, a software design tool, FPS design Assistant, provides the equations needed to design the forward converter. Use of FPS design Assistant is demonstrated using a PC power supply as a design example.
