Measure Battery Capacity Precisely in Medical Design

Focus:

Coulomb counting and voltage-based methods are the conventional approaches to measuring battery capacity. But both have limitations that degrade their accuracy under certain conditions. A gas gauging technology called Impedance Track from Texas Instruments enables greater accuracy by tracking changes in battery impedance over time. The benefits of Impedance Track are discussed in the context of medical applications.

What you’ll learn:

  • How to achieve more accurate reporting of battery capacity for Li-ion cells
  • How to measure battery capacity accurately in aging battery packs
  • How to measure instantaneous state of charge for batteries after long periods of disuse
