Smart Rectification Benefits Half-Bridge Converters

Focus:

Synchronous rectification can improve the efficiency of half-bridge converters like those used in eighth brick and sixteenth brick dc-dc converters. However, it's difficult to generate the correct drive signals for the synchronous MOSFETs since it requires knowledge of when the primary-side MOSFETs will turn on or off. The SiP11203 synchronous rectifier driver works with the Si9222 primary-side half-bridge controller to coordinate turn-on and off of the secondary-side synchronous MOSFETs with that of the primary-side MOSFETs. The chip also provides pre-bias protection, overvoltage protection, soft start and soft stop for the secondary-side MOSFETs. Operation of the SiP11203 is explained. A comparison of half-bridge and other topologies is also given.

What you’ll learn:

  • How to implement synchronous rectification in half-bridge dc-dc converters using the SiP11203 synchronous rectifier driver
