Improving Output Filtering (A Vicor Power Techtorial) Focus: This video demonstrates techniques for accurately measuring the output ripple produced by a dc-dc converter and presents some approaches to filtering this output ripple. The key to the ripple measurement is a modification of the scope probe that eliminates the coupling of the high-frequency components of the common-mode noise onto the grounding clip. Techniques for filtering the output ripple include adding extra capacitors, LC filters, or filters using common-mode chokes to the converter's output. These techniques are demonstrated on a dc-dc converter module. Measurements are performed at different load levels to show the effect of loading on ripple amplitude and ripple switching frequency.
What you’ll learn: - How to measure the output ripple produced by a dc-dc converter
- How to reduce the output ripple produced by a dc-dc converter using different passive filter techniques
