Switch Tricks Electronic Ballast ICs Into Working On Low Voltages

Focus:

Half-bridge gate driver ballast ICs with undervoltage lockout (UVLO) on the high-side output need a VCC of at least 12 V to operate properly. When the ballast operates from a 12 V battery a boost dc-dc converter is recommended. However,a simpler alternative solution uses a DPDT switch a capacitor and an auxiliary transformer winding to obtain the necessary supply voltage.
