Symmetrical Boost Concept for Solar Applications up to 1000V Focus: This one-page article considers the design of a transformerless solar power inverter with a split supply output. In such applications, variations in the input impedance associated with the solar panel and in the load impedance make it difficult to maintain symmetrical output on the inverter. The article presents a maximum power point (MPP) tracking boost converter (actually two boost circuits) that achieves symmetry on the output by adjusting the PWM signals. The article also presents a boost converter that maintains the symmetry of a three-phase output for the case where solar panels with different power levels and MPP characteristics (i.e. low-voltage and high-voltage solar panels) are combined on the input. This boost converter is built around Vincotech power modules.
