150 W Power Factor Corrected LLC Power Supply Using HiperPLC (PLC810PG)

Focus:

A 55-page reference design based on the PLC810PG controller IC is presented for a 230 VAC input, 150-W power supply for LED street lights. The controller integrates a CCM boost PFC stage and a resonant half-bridge LLC controller with MOSFET drivers. For high efficiency, the supply operates in burst mode at zero load, which protects against output overvoltage at low or no load, but does not permit a steady output voltage at no load. The reference design uses an integrated magnetic component for the half-bridge LLC converter, but separate transformer and resonant inductor may also be used. For both approaches, detailed winding instructions are given for the magnetic components. Electrical, thermal, and EMI test results are presented.
