Intelligent Interleaving: Advanced PFC Controller for High Efficiency AC-DC Power Supplies Focus: When designing power factor correction converters with an interleaved, two-phase power stage, it's imperative to tightly synchronize the switching of each phase so they are 180 degrees out of phase. Without tight synchronization, it becomes necessary to overrate the power stage components to prevent potential failures. An interleaved dual boundary conduction- mode (BCM) PFC controller, the FAN9612, employs a unique synchronization technique called Sync-Loc to maintain good synchronization during transient and steady-state operating conditions, and implements protection features, which allow a less-conservative design of the power stage. The controller is suitable for PFC converters under 1 kW which encompasses applications in television power supplies, desktop and server power supplies, networking and telecom power supplies, and solar micro inverters. Operation of this controller is described in detail in this article.
What you’ll learn: - How to improve synchronization of interleaved phases in a PFC converter using the FAN9612 controller
- How to understand operation of the synchronization and protection features in the FAN9612 PFC controller
