New LED Applications are Unfamiliar Territory, Tools Help Designers with Inductor Selection Focus: At its online LED Design Center, magnetic supplier Coilcraft offers tools to help users select inductors for dc-dc LED driver designs. Users can start by selecting a driver IC from a particular IC vendor and then locate suitable inductors for the selected IC. The list of inductors can go beyond what the IC vendor specifies in its reference design including information on newer inductors. Alternately, users can start by selecting an LED model and a specific LED driver topology as the basis for selecting an inductor. This article describes how to use these tools.
