Tapping into a New RF Energy Source Found in Digital Processing Circuits Focus: A methodology described here reduces dc power losses due to digitally generated noise currents by recycling those noise currents back into the system, improving battery runtime in portable devices by up to 20%. As a secondary benefit, the methodology also damps the system power grid improving power grid stability. This methodology has been implemented in the form of a proof of concept (but production ready) power optimizer IC. The operation of this IC is described at a high level and the tests conducted to demonstrate its effectiveness are described at length in this article. This technology is being commercialized in the form of add-on products such as devices that plug into I/O ports, which can be used with existing systems.
