Wireless Charging Technology - Fundamentals of A4WP Standard

Focus:

This 6-min. video explains the benefits and features of the Alliance For Wireless Power or A4WP technology and standard, also known as Rezance) for wireless power transfer. It begins by highlighting the advantages of the loosely coupled A4WP technology versus that of the first- generation Wireless Power Consortium (Xi standard) and Power Matters Alliance (PMA). It elaborates on the spatial freedom and ability to charge multiple devices of A4WP, presents a system reference model and explains its principles of operation. It then explains key details of the baseline system specification including the power level “categories” for receivers (power receiver units), power level “classes” defined for transmitters (power transmitter units), the star topology, relationship to the Bluetooth standard, ON Semiconductor’s involvement with A4WP standards development, and the company’s offerings.

What you’ll learn:

  • How to understand principles of operation of A4WP wireless power systems and key elements of the associated standard
  • How to understand advantages of A4WP wireless power systems versus those based on the WPC’s Xi and the PMA’s wireless power standards
