Developing A 25-kW SiC-Based Fast DC Charger (Part 2): Solution Overview

Focus:

Part 2 of this series describes the architecture of the fast EV charger in further detail, explaining the topology selections in the two stages--the active rectification or PFC stage and the dual active full bridge dc-dc converter stage. Topology tradeoffs and operational choices such as switching frequency are discussed with respect to charger requirements. The article then briefly explains the reasons for selecting key semiconductor components including the company’s NXH010P120MNF1 half-bridge SiC-modules, the controller hardware, gate drivers, sense components, and auxiliary power supply. A high-level block diagram of the 25-kW EV dc charger and 3D mechanical models of the PFC and dc-dc stages are presented.

What you’ll learn:

  • How to architect a scalable, 25-kW fast EV dc charger using SiC power modules and other available components
